Advent Meditations – Week One

Advent

Send your Advent petitions to the ShrineIt’s not too late to light a St. Jude Vigil Light for your special intentions during this Advent season. We will remember your petitions at the National Shrine of St. Jude.

God’s love for us is strong. He seeks us out, always drawing us closer to Him in faith. St. Jude accompanies us in our Advent preparation for the birth of Christ. He offers the light of hope in the darkness of winter.

We will be praying for you this Advent, as always. See below our daily Advent Meditations for this first week of Advent.

November 27 – First Sunday of Advent

Thank you for taking time to pray the St. Jude Daily Advent Meditations. We look forward to praying with and for you during these holy days.

Today the church celebrates its new year. As we enter into the quiet of Advent, resolve to grow in holiness. Even as the world’s pace quickens in anticipation of Christmas, embrace the practices of daily prayer, frequent reflection, and quiet solitude. Allow yourself to hear God’s voice. Light the first candle of the Advent wreath. As the world grows dark with the approach of winter, Advent prayer brings us closer to let the light of hope that St. Jude offers.

Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.

Pray for peace. Jesus’ gentle love is needed all over the world. May peace enter all hearts and places where conflict lingers. Resolve that as you address Christmas cards this year, you will offer a brief prayer for each recipient, asking St. Jude to bless them.

For over all, his glory will be shelter and protection: shade from the parching heat of day, refuge and cover from storm and rain.

Where do you need healing? Your mind? Your spirit? Your body? Ask St. Jude to accompany you on the path to healing. Christmas is a time of giving. If you can assist someone in need today, do so. If you cannot, then offer a prayer for those who suffer from want.

But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.

On St. Andrew’s Feast Day, we remember him and other apostles like our patron, St. Jude. Pray that the Claretians, like the apostles, will courageously continue to spread the Gospel.

Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! Let us rejoice and be glad!

Generosity is the mark of Jesus’ disciples. Give honor and glory to God during Advent by sharing your gifts freely with those in need. Ask God for the grace and insight to use your time on earth wisely.

The way of the just is smooth; the path of the just you make level.

Advent is the season of waiting. Today embrace the opportunities you have to wait joyfully on others—including the Lord. Pray for those who are afflicted with illness, especially cancer, and ask St. Jude to give them hope.

The lowly will ever find joy in the Lord, and the poor rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

A sense of gratitude does not happen all at once; it is practiced. Give thanks today for all you have been given.

Here is your God; He comes with vindication; with divine recompense He comes to save you.
