Advent Meditations – Week Four

Advent

Send your Advent petitions to the ShrineThere’s still time to light a St. Jude Vigil Light for your special intentions during this Advent season. We will remember your petitions at the National Shrine of St. Jude.

God’s love for us is strong. He seeks us out, always drawing us closer to Him in faith. St. Jude accompanies us in our Advent preparation for the birth of Christ. He offers the light of hope in the darkness of winter.

We will be praying for you this Advent, as always. See below our daily Advent Meditations for this final week of Advent.

December 18 – Fourth Sunday of Advent

Thank you for taking time to pray the St. Jude Daily Advent Meditations. We look forward to praying with and for you during these holy days.

Turn to St. Jude in a special way today. Give over to him whatever may be in your heart: sadness, joy, burdens, and longings. Know that you pray with all the members of the St. Jude League. Light the fourth candle of the Advent wreath. With this candle we pray that our faithful departed may see the full glory of God in heaven.

Mary bore a son, and named him Jesus.

Monday, December 19

Let the Lord into your life. Spend some time in a quiet place with God today and enjoy the reward it will bring. Now that all the candles of the Advent wreath are lit, the light of Christ is growing stronger. Share that light with someone you encounter today.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Tuesday, December 20

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Pray today for an end to war and violence, and ask God to help those affected by them.

Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people.

Wednesday, December 21

The first light of dawn is a symbol of God greeting his children. God is there not as a taskmaster, but as someone who wishes only to gladden hearts, brighten eyes, and get us ready for whatever the day brings.

Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.

Thursday, December 22

Think of the rejection Mary and Joseph faced when they were not received in the inn. Reflect on those who have rejected you in the past and forgive them now. On this shortest day of the year, pray that the light of Christ will shine through the darkness and the hope of St. Jude be made known to all.

The world’s true light, the Lord, comes with power and might.

Friday, December 23

The birth of the Christ child is near! Take time today to reflect on what it means to celebrate the birth of our Lord and savior every year. Like Mary and Joseph who traveled to Bethlehem, say a prayer for those traveling during Christmas; may they be kept safe during their journeys.

Prepare the way for the coming of the Lord!

Saturday, December 24 — Christmas Eve

We take a moment this blessed Christmas Eve to reflect with expectant joy:

Glory to God in the Highest! And peace to His people on earth! As the shepherds rejoiced with the angels, let us give glory to God for His goodness and love. As families gather for the holidays, pray to St. Jude to heal any divisions that may exist. Ask him to bless your family and to make it stronger in Christ’s love.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for He has visited and brought redemption to His people.

Sunday, December 25 — Christmas Day

We take a moment this blessed Christmas Day to reflect with joy:

Joy fills the world, for Christ the Savior is born!

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.
