Mary Mother of God

Reading 1 Nm 6:22-27:
The LORD said to Moses: “Speak to Aaron and his sons and tell them: This is how you shall bless the Israelites.

Say to them: The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace! So shall they invoke my name upon the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

St. Jude ThaddeusIn Sunday’s second reading, Paul details the virtues we must cultivate: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and above all else, love and gratitude. This reading presents a good examination of consciousness with regard to family life. When have we taken a harsher stance over kinder ones? In what moments have we neglected to express our gratitude for the things others do for us throughout the day?

Christmas Novena of Masses

Solemn Novena to St. Jude

National Shrine of St. Jude at ChristmasGreetings of peace and joy! In many ways our Advent journey of “preparing the way of the Lord” is a time of darkness – literally, days are shorter and nights longer – and in prayer our darkness comes from the waiting we must do before our Savior arrives.

Our preparation for Christmas includes the time we put aside in quiet prayer, celebrating the Eucharist and contemplating how we can grow in faith.

We at the National Shrine of St. Jude would like to remember you and your special intentions during the Christmas Novena of Masses, which will take place December 25th through January 2nd.  We invite you to send your petitions to St. Jude, along with the names of any friends or loved ones for whom we should pray, and we will deliver those to the altar of St. Jude  The prayers we offer during the Christmas Novena of Masses renew in us a spirit of hope for the New Year.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who herald peace and happiness, who proclaim salvation and announce to Zion: “Your God is king!”

National Shrine of St. Jude at ChristmasIn Sunday’s first reading we hear about the house of God. God says it is not in our hands to build, but that He will give us a living temple. The true house of God, the place where he lives, is none other than Mary, the blessed mother. It is Mary who opens the door for the coming of God to the world and who received the son of God. In some ways, when we accept the presence of God in our lives, we also become a home for God and open the door for His presence in the world. In spite of our doubts, hesitations, and fears, if we say yes like Mary, we will facilitate the coming of God to a world that is in need of salvation, peace, and forgiveness.
