Weekly Devotion – August 16th

Weekly Devotions

Pray to St. JudeOur reflection from the readings this week is:

“My soul is glad because of God, my Savior, for he has remembered me, his lowly servant.”

We have been called by God, just as Mary was, to do our part in the plan of salvation. Our recognition that our call from God is also a personal one is the essence of Christian commitment.

Bible Diary for August 15th – 21st

Bible Diary

August 15
Sunday

Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary

1st Reading: Rev 11:19a; 12:1–6a, 10ab
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain, looking to her time of delivery.

Then another sign appeared: a huge, red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and wearing seven crowns on its heads.

Altar of St. JudeOur reflection from the readings this week is:

“Your heart is where your riches are.”

If we want to know what we really value in life, we need to ask ourselves what we think about most. Is it love, goodness, commitment, the will of God–or is it money, status, lust, and power?

Bible Diary for August 8th – 14th

Bible Diary

August 8
Sunday

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1st Reading: Wis 18:6–9
That night had been foretold to our ancestors, and knowing in what promise they trusted, they could rejoice in all surety.

Your people waited for both the salvation of the just and the downfall of their enemies, for the very punishment of our enemies brought glory to the people you have called – that is, to us.

Pray Always

Reflections from the Shrine

Altar of St. JudeA few days ago, a young mother came to the National Shrine of St. Jude with tears in her eyes asking that we join her to pray for healing for her infant daughter Molly who is sick. Molly is the first child of her young family, but the child’s illness is affecting her Mom and Dad tremendously. They are asking that God should heal Molly through prayer.

The father and husband whose poor choices and judgment affects his family seeks healing so that he can be present to his family that trusts in his ability to make the necessary changes in his life; although they have been directly wounded by his poor choices and judgment.

The National Shrine of St. Jude and the St. Jude League are a mission of The Claretians and exist to bring together devotees of St. Jude in a community of prayer and hope.
