Weekly Devotion – June 14th

Weekly Devotions

National Shrine of St. JudeOur reflection from the readings this week is:

“A Pharisee invited Jesus to have dinner with him.”

When we refuse to step over social boundaries, when we associate only with our own kind, we miss the chance to grow spiritually. Those most unlike us have more to teach us than our friends.

11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1st Reading: 2 S 12:7-10, 13
Nathan said to David, “You are this man! It is Yahweh, God of Israel, who speaks: ‘I anointed you king over Israel and saved you from Saul’s hands; I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives; I also gave you the nation of Israel and Judah. But if this were not enough, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise Yahweh by doing what displeases him? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife for yourself. Yes, you killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now the sword will never be far from your family because you have despised me and taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite for yourself.’”

David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan answered him, “Yahweh has forgiven your sin; you shall not die.”

Reflections from the Shrine

National Shrine of St. JudeOne of St Thomas Aquinas’ writings on the Eucharist reminds us that through “blessings, breaking, pouring and sharing,” Christ is given to us and God’s saving work through Jesus Christ is ongoing in the world. The Eucharist is our communal sharing in the life of Christ. Christ shares himself with us and gives us life (John 6: 48, 51). Through Christ’s gift of self, our friendship with God is restored and made perfect. We reunite with God through Christ.

Weekly Devotion – June 7

Weekly Devotions

stjudeOur reflection from the readings this week is:

“You yourself give them something to eat. They answered, ‘All we have are five loaves and two fish.”

The problems of the world are too much for any one person to solve, but that is no excuse for not doing our part.

Body and Blood of Christ

1st Reading: Gen 14:18–20
Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought bread and wine; he was a priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth! And blessed be God Most High who has delivered your enemies into your hands!”

And Abram gave him a tenth part of everything.
