Holy Week Prayer Cross

Holy Week, Lent

This week we celebrate one of the most solemn and joyful weeks of the year, Holy Week. We are grateful for you and the thousands of others who have sent their petitions to be joined together in the St. Jude Holy Week Prayer Cross. The cross is currently on display at the National Shrine of St. Jude during Holy Week, April 1st – 8th.

Prayer to St. Jude:
Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (here make your request) and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Weekly Devotion – April 2nd

Weekly Devotions

National Shrine of St. JudeAs Lent draws to a close, let’s pray with and for one another as members of the St. Jude League family. You have made your way through your Lenten journey, and now we turn to its culmination in the Triduum of Holy Week. As a community of faithful devotees, we stand united in prayer on these days of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

April 4th – Day of Prayer for Cancer

Day of Prayer for Cancer

Day of Remembrance & Healing for CancerMay the Lord bless you and keep you and all those you love, especially those affected by cancer. Throughout today’s liturgies at the National Shrine of St. Jude, we will pray in a special way for all those who suffer from cancer. We invite you to join us today, and on the first Wednesday of every month, as we call upon St. Jude for the healing of cancer. Join our prayer circle of healing by posting your prayer to our Day of Prayer for Cancer wall.

We pray together:
God of healing mercy, in Jesus your Son you stretch out your hand in compassion, restoring the sinner, healing the sick, and lifting up those bowed down. Embrace us now in your loving care, particularly those afflicted with cancer, for whom this intention is offered. May the Spirit of Jesus bring us all health in soul and body, that with joy and thanksgiving we may praise you for your goodness, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bible Diary for April 1st – 7th

Bible Diary

April 1

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

At the Procession with PalmsGospel Mk 11:1-10:
When Jesus and his disciples drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately on entering it, you will find a colt tethered on which no one has ever sat.

Untie it and bring it here. If anyone should say to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ reply, ‘The Master has need of it and will send it back here at once.’”

Do you want to be made well (John 5:6)?

Reflections from the Shrine

We are witnessing an outpouring of requests for prayer at the National Shrine of St Jude. Each is filled with hope and trust of divine healing in the life of the petitioner. Talking and listening to devotees visiting the Shrine for prayer, I remember the story of the man who had been ill for thirty-eight years in the Gospel of John 5:1-15.

The National Shrine of St. Jude and the St. Jude League are a mission of The Claretians and exist to bring together devotees of St. Jude in a community of prayer and hope.
